Paper completed!
Ive been avoiding writing the essay all weekend but I feel great now that I have it finished. Writing papers scare me but the fact that my patient told me so many amazing stories made it easier for me. I am looking forward to working with my group on the cultural project and even more excited about the food!
thankful for no clinicals this friday! i plan on sleeping in ;)

Half way marker
I passed the midterm last week which is a huge relief! Now this week I just have to fight this cold and start getting ahead on my studying. Hopefully I'll get better by the end of the week, I'd hate to be sick at a clinical day!

First Day of Clinicals...
...and I survived! My biggest worry of the day was being late because I am in NO WAY a morning person! I was unfamiliar to the clinical site and the side of town it was on so I was worried about being lost. The site was easy to find, it was all the red lights I hit going down Tennessee that set me back on time. I can’t remember the last time I was on the road that early. There were hardly any cars in sight! For future clinicals, I must make myself wake up a lot earlier to avoid that stress. After I arrived at 645 on the dot, whew, I was so excited to meet my patient!
I was nervous the resident wouldn’t like me. That maybe the patient wouldn’t react well to a stranger following them around and asking questions. To my surprise, the patient couldn't have been happier spend the day with me. She was so pleasant and eager to tell me all about herself! She was a great host. It turned out to be a great learning experience. The vital signs were easier than expected to get although taking her blood pressure was a little challenging.Unaware of how much you have to pump up a cuff with someone who has high systolic blood pressure, I got a little scared. I didn't know if I was pumping too much and hurting her poor arm with easily tear-able skin! but she was a good sport and I got all my vitals with accuracy!
I have a little more confidence in getting vital signs and a little less fear of communicating with a patient. Originally I thought today would be a long day with lots of down time but the time flew by quickly. I can only imagine a real shift as a nurse on the floor going by faster. I’m so excited for another clinical day! Now it’s time to get through the midterm. Can’t believe we are already half way through fundamentals! Good luck all! Happy Studying!

Nursing
My definition of nursing is someone to comfort and provide assistance to people who need special attention. I feel like nursing is important because of the people who need this attention are unable to get care from just anyone. A nurse is able and prepared to take care of an aray of people with various needs. They need to be responsible and empathic. The reason I want to be a nurse is because I want to motivate and truely support patients emotionally. I also find the way the human body works and the technology we have to fix the body when it goes wrong fascinate me.
I want to work in a childrens hospital and really help the kids feel better. I believe that there is a certain way you must talk and treat kids in order for them to feel safe and comfortable. I also believe that the level of emotional comfort a person has in the hospital will increase their physical wellness. I am so excited to be in nursing school and to learn how to treat and care for people in need.
